SUMMARY

The Design Engineer with an electrical emphasis is responsible for the core design of machine electrical systems, control systems, troubleshooting, and product updates.  This position is responsible for analyzing and providing realistic recommendations on electrical components to ensure that the design meets the design goals, machine requirements, and customer needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop software for machine control systems and displays
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, components and applications
  • Design and detail machine components using CAD software for manufacturability, cost effectiveness and safety
  • Schedule, execute, and oversee testing of product design
  • Analyze production and machine/field issues and create solutions
  • Develop bill of materials
  • Develop, maintain, and review parts books/operations manuals of manufactured product

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering or Associate’s degree from a two-year college/technical school with sufficient combination of education and experience.  Experience in software development using C, C++, or similar PLC/logic-based programs. Understanding of robotics and automation preferred. Experience with 3D design using CAD software.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Ability to identify the root cause of failed or defective parts and recommend and implement product design solutions.Ability to create robust design, identify changes early in the design process and to recognize design commonality, creating cost efficient product designs.Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.  Strong knowledge in the FEA area and all associated processes, hydraulics, electronics, statistics and strength of materials which is critical to cost, durability and serviceability of products to use in performance of job duties, including checking machined, welded and assembled parts. Ability to understand material strengths, fatigue strength, and manufacturability to ensure that the right configuration and materials are developed.  Ability to operate fork lift, simple mechanics tools and wrenches, assembly hand tools, drill press, lathe, band saw and assembly power tools.
